Y’all. It. Has been. This month has been a crazy whirlwind of stress, anxiety, and what feels like a half attempt of Slowing Down this September. That being said I’m still trying to go ahead with the remainder of the fourth and final week goal: Read More Books.
I have always loved to read, ever since I was a child. It was my most favorite escape, and I have the best memories of summer reading competitions. I can honestly attribute so much of who I am today to the books I read.
Unfortunately, as I got older, my time for reading got less and less. Between work and college and everything else, it’s really hard to find time to read. And when I have the time, usually I’m just about to get into bed. 3 pages, and then it’s time off to snoozeland.
Reading to me is an escape. It’s a productive way for me to check out of the world for a little while. I usually read any variety of fiction, non-fiction is far too thought-y for me a majority of the time. At the beginning of this year, I set a goal for myself through Goodreads, a goal to read 12 books this year. Just last week, I finished my first book. A little late, right?
I decided to add reading onto my Slow Down September because more than anything else this month, reading grounds me. Some people get ideas in the shower, I get them while I read. My brain turns off the stress from school and work and friends and life and everything, finally getting a breather from it all, allowing me to actually work and flow and think clearly in the background to the book. And I really need that more.
My original plan was to commit to sit down and read for 30 minutes every day. Seeing how this month has gone so far, I honestly don’t know if I can say that I’ll be able to do that. It’s been a really rough month, but it’s been a learning month.
As for my new project, keep an eye out in the next couple weeks for an official release blog post. I love books so much, and I felt it was finally time to have a little extra book-y-ness in my life. I don’t want to give much away, because it’s really early at this point, but I will say this, I’m really looking to build a strong working community around books and reading. So stay tuned!
September only has a few days left, what are you doing to finish strong??
